Common questions
Where does the price come from
The Kraken XBT/USD order book, read through the exchange's public interface. XBT is Kraken's ticker for bitcoin, so XBT/USD and BTC/USD mean the same market.
How often does it update
Every five minutes. The chart and the thirty-day table use daily closing prices rather than the movement inside a day.
Why does another site show a different number
Each exchange has its own order book, and an aggregator publishes an average across several of them. The Coinbase quote above the tables is there so the gap is visible rather than hidden.
Is this what I would pay
No. A market price is where the last trade happened. What you pay includes the spread and the fee of whichever venue you use, and this page is not financial advice.
